Kinds Of Cancer Cells
Cancer is a kind of disease brought about by a rapid, unregulated growth of cells in one or more parts of the body. There are different kinds of cancer cells, most of which are triggered by environmental factors such as consumption of tobacco, lack of exercise and exposure to radiation. While symptoms are mostly undetectable during the beginning of this disease, many individuals with cancer initially exhibit signs similar to that of other illnesses, and may be incorrectly diagnosed; however, once detected immediately, cancer can be treated with chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation therapy.

– Carcinoma – Among the different kinds of cancer cells, this is the most common to manifest in humans, primarily due to the abundance of the epithelial cells, its origins. (The body is coated with epithelial cells, which form the skin and the lining of different body cavities and organs.) There are several carcinoma variants. Adenocarcinoma comes from adenomatous cells, or cells that line the tissue of the glands. Squamous cell carcinoma comes from squamous cells, a kind of epithelial cell that appears flat on the surface. Adenosquamous carcinoma is a combination of both.
– Sarcoma – Sarcoma is a cancer cell that arises from connective tissues from the human body. Once tumors grow out of bone, fat, cartilage or muscle tissues, they are considered sarcomas. Compared to carcinomas, these kinds of cancer cells are quite rare, but are equally risky and life-threatening once unmanaged. Osteosarcoma is cancer of the bone, chondrosarcoma is cancer of the cartilage and rhabdomyosarcoma is cancer of a muscle. Sarcomas make up less than one percent of all cancer cases diagnosed.
– Leukemia – The kind of cancer cells found in human bloodstream is called leukemia. It is specifically found in the bone marrow, or the soft tissue located inside the bones, where production of new blood cells takes place. Myelogenous leukemia originates from production of red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets, while lymphocytic leukemia comes from the production of lymphocytes. Since these blood cells have functions that involve the security and protection of one’s body (white blood cells fight infection, red blood cells help motivate blood circulation, platelets halt bleeding), occurrence of cancer may break down and disrupt these functions, making one more susceptible to disease and infection.
– Lymphoma – Among the kinds of cancer cells, leukemia and lymphoma are the ones closely related to one another. Lymphoma targets the lymphatic system, which is mainly responsible for keeping the immune system up and running. Like leukemia, lymphoma is the cancer type to most commonly occur in children, and collectively they make up about seven percent of all diagnosed cancer cases.
According to the World Health Organization, one-third of all cancer cases can be prevented. Since cancer is caused mostly by environmental factors, it is important for individuals to know how to take care of their body and avoid what they need to in the environment. Decreasing or completely eliminating tobacco and alcohol intake, following a healthy diet and exercising on a regular basis are all ways to help prevent the occurrence of cancer.
