Unwanted Weeds that grows along with grass, consists of most of the natural vegetation around the planet. There are different kinds of weeds in grass that grow in human-controlled vegetation settings that are often deemed undesirable. Weeds usually do not have any botanical classification as it can grow in gardens, agricultural farms, lawns and any other fertile land. Most of the times they are uprooted as have no value in terms of consumption or for beautification purpose.
Let us take a quick look at some of the common weeds that are seen in our surroundings.
Dandelion – This weed is persistent and grows up to 1 foot tall. If they get in the way of your cultivation, they need to be completely uprooted, however if they are on non cultivable land, they do add a charm of their own, thanks to the fresh yellow flowers.
Crabgrass – These kinds of weeds in grass reach almost 3 feet in length. These weeds are annual and flower through June to October and each plant can produce up 150,000 seeds. They cannot be killed by mowing; the best way to get rid of these kinds of weeds is mulching or spraying corn gluten over them.
Poison Ivy – One of the most common kinds of weeds in grass, poison ivy is a perennial weed. This plant is toxic and should not be handled with bare skin. The best way to get rid of them is cutting them at their base and burying it when the plant dries. Avoid compost or burning these weeds as the smoke can be fatal.
Thistle – These kinds of weeds in grass as perennial and can grow up to 5 feet. They can be destroyed by mulching with cardboard or by spraying corn gluten.
Oxalis – These perennial weeds grow up to 20 inches. The leaves are sour in shape and can be eaten in small quantities however excess consumption can be harmful. These kinds of weeds in grass can be destroyed by mulching
White clover – This is one of the few weeds that can actually help the soil as it adds nitrogen to the soil structure. However if you want to get rid of these perennial weeds, then mulching and spraying gluten corn is the best option.
Nutsedge – These grassy weeds can grow up to a foot in length. These perennial weeds can be destroyed by uprooting them from the root.
Purslane – These weeds are one of the most common garden weeds and can grow up to 6 inches in length. They usually grow in a sunny and dry landscape. You can mulch them or spray with herbicides to get rid of them.
Smartweed – This is one of the few garden weeds that actually support wildlife. It can grow up to 40 inches and flaunt small white or pink flowers in summer. They can be mulched or uprooted from the base.
Black Nightshade – This weed is poisonous and should be mulched or plucked from the root up. If the problem persists than you can use herbicide.
There are many other kinds of weeds in grass like quack grass, black medic, Fleabane, dock, nettle, spurge etc that should be either mulched or uprooted.
