There are more than thousands of microorganisms that are called as bacteria in our surroundings; some of them are harmful while the others are not. There are different kinds of diseases caused by bacteria that can be serious while some life threatening to humans. These bacteria have the ability to infect your digestive tract and respiratory tract through soil, water and air. Most of these bacteria are countered by our immune system; there are some that are pathogenic in nature and result in various diseases

Let us look at some of the most common kinds of diseases caused by bacteria

Cholera

This is an intestinal disease caused by the vibrio cholerae bacteria that can contaminate food and water. The major causes of these bacteria are undercooked food, unhygienic cooking or deficiency of hydrochloric acid. The bacterium takes around 3 days to set in and only after that can the symptoms be visible. The common symptoms of Cholera are dehydration, stomach cramps, low blood pressure, diarrhea, nausea, and fatigue, dryness of the skin and mouth and low urination. If the right kind of treatment is not provided in time, the person can die.

Bubonic Plague

These kinds of diseases caused by bacteria spreads through the bacteria Yesinia pestis and usually spread through fleas and rats. When this bacterium infects the lungs, the condition is known as pneumonic plague. If the fever doesn’t subside with 2 to 7 days, it could turn life threatening

Typhoid

Typhoid is known by various names like abdominal typhus, slow fever, infantile remittent fever and gasulic fever. This fewer increases much slower than normal fever and can cause sweating, diarrhea, constipation and rash and if fever keeps going higher, it results in dehydration. Patient is usually given courses of antibiotics for 2 days and the fever can subside within 7 to 10 days. Poor hygiene habits, unhealthy sanitation conditions etc are reasons for the spread of this bacterium.

Pertussis

These kinds of diseases caused by bacteria are also known as whooping cough and are most prevalent in under developed countries. The main causes are unhygienic living conditions and sanitation conditions. The common symptoms are nausea, fever and severe cough.

Tuberculosis

TB as it is common known is an infectious disease caused by the bacteria mycobacterium tuberculosis. Symptoms of TB are excessive coughing, chest pain, coughing blood, loss of appetite, weight loss and continuous fever. This disease is contagious and the bacteria can be passed on by sneezing, coughing and spitting. TB also affects the liver, brain, heart, skin, lungs and bones and can be life threatening is proper medical care is not provided.

Apart from these 5 kinds of diseases caused by bacteria there are many other diseases like Anthrax, botulism, conjunctivitis, diphtheria, gonorrhea, gas gangrene, Q fever, salmonellesis, syphilis, vaginitis, trachoma, meningitis etc. All these diseases are caused by some type of bacteria and can spread through soil, air, water, contact, sexual intercourse, ticks, fleas, food or water contamination.
