Kinds Of Cancers

Cancer is a major illness that takes the lives of thousands of people every year. More than 100 different kinds of cancers have been diagnosed in patients. They have different characteristics as well as different causes. They have causes, symptoms, and various ways of treatments. There are about 12 common kinds of cancers, including lung cancer, endometrial, breast, kidney, colon and rectal, and bladder cancer. The other ones are thyroid cancer, pancreatic, prostrate, lymphoma leukemia, and melanoma cancer.

Lung cancer
This is the most common of all kinds of cancers. Lung cancer is the cause of many cancer related deaths which makes it one of the deadliest. It occurs when oxygen can no more be extracted from the air by the lungs. This condition can be as a result of the death of cells that enable the lungs perform its work or the growth of tumors in the lungs. When this happens, fluids begin to build up in the lungs which will cause it to collapse eventually. Chemotherapy is the only possible treatment available for this kind of cancer.

Brain Cancer
Brain cancers affect both children and adults and they do not show any early symptoms (they are asymptomatic). Some brain cancers can be very serious while some others are benign. There are 8 kinds of cancers in this category: the cerebellar astrocytoma, hypothalamic glioma, visual pathway, ependymoma, brain stem glioma, and brain tumor. Most of these kinds of cancers affect children but the last one, brain tumor, is more common in adults.

Breast Cancer
The female folks are mostly affected by this one. However, a fraction of the male population has been diagnosed of breast cancer too. Studies show that about 200, 000 women in the US are affected by one form of breast cancer or another. Basically, there are 5 common kinds of cancers in this category: invasive breast cancer, Paget’s nipple disease, dustal carcinoma in situ, lobular carcinoma in situ, and inflammatory breast cancer.

Digestive and Gastrointestinal Cancers
Cancer can equally affect the gastrointestinal and digestive system. There are several kinds of cancers of the gastrointestinal and digestive system, including rectal, anal, pancreatic, bile duct, liver, and colon cancer. Other kinds of cancers in this group include carcinoid tumor, esophageal, small intestine, stomach, and gall bladder cancer.

There are other kinds of cancers that affect different parts of the body. For example, the parathyroid cancer and the pituitary tumor affect the endocrine system. Urethral cancer, testicular, and penile cancer can equally affect the genitourinary system. Every year thousands of women are also diagnosed of endometrial cancer, vulvae cancer, ovarian cancer, and cervical cancer.

Ovarian or Cervical cancers
These kinds of cancers affect only women since men do not have these organs. At the initial stage of this cancer, there is the presence of cysts in the fallopian tubes or the uterine wall. These cysts can multiply and expand as long as they have a steady supply of blood. When they metastasize, they normally form tumors that produce artificial cells that attack other body cells. The major treatment for this kind of cancer is through a hysterectomy or complete removal of the fallopian tubes and uterus of the affected person.
